Our Commander

Commander Bob Wilson

My name is Bob Wilson. I was born in Placerville, California and raised mostly in California. My stepfather was in the Air Force with SAC and he was stationed in Korea when he married my mother at the time we lived in Richmond. After his return from Korea, we moved to Fair Oaks where he was assigned to Mather AFB.

We moved to Georgia for and year and once to Florida for a year. Each time he reported back to Mather. After each move, we moved to Fair Oaks where we lived until 1956 when we moved to a new suburb of Rancho Cordova.

I attended Folsom schools after that and graduated in 1963. I remained at home until 1965 when I joined the US COAST GUARD. I went to boot camp in Alameda for 9 weeks. I requested assignment anywhere on the West coast, but was sent to the Gulf Coast.

I went to the Coast Guard's Engineman "A" School in Groton, CT for 12 weeks and was transferred back to New Orleans, LA. I spent almost 6 years there in various units except for 1968 to 1969 when I was in Vietnam on a patrol boat.

After New Orleans, I went to Italy to build a new Long Range Navigational (LORAN) Station. I spent 14 months there. After Italy, I went to Washington DC as Officer in Charge of the security detachment for the USS SEQUOIA Presidential yacht.

This was during the Ford administration. After that, I went to Long island, NY and returned to Washington DC where I was with the Naval Engineering Branch, Small Boat Division. I finally moved to Mayport, FL (just East of Jacksonville) in 1985 and retired 1989 as an ENG4(CWO).

After retirement, I worked for a couple of environmental cleanup companies and finally joined a new company in Lake Charles, LA (Marine Spill Response Corp) as the Maintenance and Logistics Supervisor. Ampany became the largest catastrophic oil cleanup company in the US.

I consider both my assignment to Italy and Vietnam as memorable. In Italy, I learned how to be completely responsible for a large amount of equipment that could be detrimental for the well being of a huge number of people since the radio beacon was being used for navigation of ships, planes and Apollo missions. I grew up in Vietnam.

I first married in 1973 to a Scottish woman and had one daughter. My daughter presently lives and works in Tallahassee, FL as a Severe Sexual Abuse Investigator. I have one Granddaughter there. I divorced in 2001 and remarried to Lynne July 2003 and she had a son by a previous marriage.

He lives here in Paradise and has a son. Lynne and I were married in Tampa Bay, Florida in 2006, I had a medical problem precluding me from working and we moved into a house in Arkansas. We moved here to Magalia in Feb 2009. We both finally returned to our roots.

I welcome being able to serve as your Commander.

Thank you, Bob Wilson
